THE AMADOR HOUSE

Perched atop the hills of Amador County, overlooking a small valley, sits the Amador house. Previous owners had begun preparations on the 60+ acre property, but the property sat and eventually changed hands with a well, some cleared paths, and few building pads to choose from. One pad quite literally stood out above the rest as the obvious place to situate this home.
From the very first visit to the site one thing was a natural reaction, unavoidable, compulsive even, almost mandatory - stand at the edge and face the view. But not just face the view, soak it in. Stick your hands in your pockets and take a deep breath. Stay a while. Enjoy.
The home encourages you to stay and rest. Though modern it's unpretentious, comfortable. Natural tones, textures, and the inescapable reminder of the natural surroundings create an environment where the house is really the backdrop. Good design often aims to do this. To be not the object unto itself but the facilitator for the rest of life.
